Highlighting hair in 3rd trimester?

is highlighting (not full head dying) your hair while 35 weeks preg. safe ?

Highlighting hair in 3rd trimester?

There's ups and downs everyone will drop on you:

Downs: the fumes are bad, the chemicals are bad, the water you drink is bad, the way you're breathing is bad.... get off it people!

Ups: hi-lights shouldn't be done (pregnant or not) where the chemicals actually touch your scalp, any 1/2 decent salon has adequate ventilation or all the cosmetologists would go home with a 4th eye and sprouting a 3rd arm, you feel better which boosts all sorts of great hormones in your body, and most Dr.s will tell you that it's perfectly OK.

Of course, talk to your practitioner for nothing else than peace of mind and/or letting them know you're doing it in case something freakish (1 in a gazillion-million) happens and they can just look at your chart (if they can't see your gorgeous hair!) and know what's up.

Again, don't feel bad about wanting to boost your self-esteem... it works wonders! For all the people giving you reasons not to do it, let me give you just one thing to think about: how often are you sitting in traffic (breathing in car emissions)? You'll be OK. Your baby will be OK.

Congratulations and good luck with delivery! You'll look fabulous!

yes

no its' not safe. Just wait til the baby is born

i don't see why it wouldn't be safe... it's not like you're ingesting chemicals or being exposed to radiation.

I just did it. My best friend is a hairdresser who colored hair her entire pregnancy, and was fine.

You could always ask the hairdresser what they think about it to be sure, or read the label on the dye and see if it says not to use during pregnancy.

Why risk it? We never know how chemicals travel in our body.

Highlighting hair in 3rd trimester?

NO. Wouldn't do it. Wait until after baby is born. Why take the chance?

Highlighting hair in 3rd trimester?

yes and no. It is better if you schedule an appointment at the salon (tell them that you are pregnant) and have them use the non-toxic formula. They do have, but they are the only one (I think) that do..... and this is the safest way. Otherwise.... wait one more month, after the baby is born... It would be the safest!

I've asked my doctor and she said yes. If you were to dye it, maybe not because it actually touches your scalp to your roots. But if you're going to highlight it, it barely touches your scalp. Or if you're that concerned like I was, I didn't touch my hair until after I stopped breastfeeding.

Congratulations and good luck.

If you are highlighting with foil or a cap, and the chemicals are not directly on your scalp, you are fine to do it.

My hairdresser told me that it was safe, but that she would use a semi-permanent hair dye. You only have a few more weeks to go, so I would just wait.

As long as you are in a well ventilated place it is safe, but remember that the horomones in your body aren't what they normally are. The same dye you use every month may turn red this time. If you do decide to highlight it try to put the solution on outside or in the kitchen with the vent for the stove going, and windows open.

Call your doctors office, and ask anyone who answers the phone there if you can do this. If they don't know, they will put you on hold, and ask a doc or a nurse, then they will take you off hold, and tell you either yes or no. It takes about 3 minutes for you to find out this answer, and you will get it from a REAL medical professional, not a bunch of pregnant women who ALL have different opinions on this subject. :-)

Perfectly safe, highlights do not touch your scalp
