i lighter dye, unless of corse you used a dye to get the brown hair. it's impossible to dye your hair from a darker color to a lighter color (if the darker color is dyed) unless you use bleach

If I were you I'd go to WalMart and buy a $11 box of Honey Highlights. I think it's Loreal, but I''m not positive. Make sure it's the kind of highlights that you pull through a cap. It's a pain, but it really makes a difference when you pull it through acap than when you 'freestyle' it. Honey highlights are great b/c they aren't too overwhelming and subtle enough to give you the change your looking for but not all the drama that goes with it.
