Will using lemon juice to highlight hair damage the hair like chemical products will?

Also, I'd rather not lighten my entire head-- my hair is curly, so it's already naturally in strands, if I coated individual strands with lemon juice, would I get a highlighted effect? (I have dark brown hair, I think it would lighten to a reddish color.)

Lemon juice is acid...your hair is not..it is very drying...with dark brown hair it will not lighten....

Lemon juice will not lighten you hair. That is an old wive's tale. It cannot hurt you, though.

Yes, it will damage your hair. It will make your hair dry and frizzy. It may work, but only on lighter heads.
