I had my hair highlighted last week and im supposed to be going swimming on saturday...will the chlorine in the water make my highlights fade?

it won't make them fade. I used to have my hair highlighted and swam every week. just be careful if you go more than once or twice a week because it could make it go green (this is from experience). but that is extreme. Also make sure you wash your hair straight after and use a leave in conditioner, this will help it from feeling like straw.

It used to turn coloured blonde hair green, I don't know if it still does

In a properly chlorinated pool you won't have any problems.

The green hair that people have experienced has always been blamed on chlorine, but those of us in the pool industry know better. It isn't the chlorine in the water that turns hair green, it's the copper. Since water is corrosive, especially in an enclosed environment like a pool, it picks up whatever metals it comes into contact with unless properly balanced. Copper pipe and fittings are common and this is one of the most common metals to find in pools (it's added through some algaecides and ionization units as well). I just thought folks would like to know that it isn't the chlorine but the copper that's to blame for green hair.
