Best way to find out for definite is to do a test on a small piece of hair that you can cut off if it's bad.

If you have black hair and you try to dye it black, it will either not show up, or turn your hair orange. Bleach your hair first.

Yep.

Sorry.

More than likely it will. Get a really good bleach that has tones to it like blue or violet. Also you're going to need a toner.

You're going to need a little patience with this one.

Good luck doll.

really.

dont do it.

black hair and blonde highlights will look trashy.

research before you act.

i suggest getting medium brown or auburn highlights.

subtle is always better.

trust me.

but to answer the question.

there is no way to make black hair blonde.

its hard to reverse the color.

when you look at the color you want.

expect it to be 1-2 shades darker.

this is because the dye can only do so much if you have black hair.

bleaching is the only way to make it blonde.

and results will most likely be undesirable.

but really i dont think you should do it in the first place.

They're correct. You will never make it blonde. The lightest will be a very light brown, almost ginger colour. If you really want the highlights, consider a few blonde hair extensions attached on top of your hair. If you get it done professionally, you won't notice it is extensions.

I first want to tell you I at one time wanted blonde highlights. So I bought a box from the store. Unfortunately do to my black hair I ended up with a coppery/orangey streaked highlights. I hated every minute of the situation. Ended up getting it corrected by a professional. Which cost a lot more than if I were to get it done professionally in the first place. Not to mention its a double process. Its hard enough trying to achieve a light brown when you have black hair. Let alone trying to get blond highlights has so much chemicals that there is an almost guarantee of failure. I'm sure many people would tell you that if you mix some chemicals at home you could achieve the look you want. But there is a possibility; do to the chemicals...you might get the look you want but as time goes by your hair will get severly damage. There is even a high risk of balding. So if I was you I would go to a professional. Don't forget! If you do happen to go to a professional make sure to ask them if they actually have some experience...the last thing you want to do is pay good money for something that you could've messed it up on your own! lol j/k. I wish you well...and if you have anymore questions don't be afraid to ask.

You really need to visit the hairdresser, who will do a strand test which will be left on your hair for the required length of time.

This will show how many shades the bleach will have lifted %26amp; the condition of your hair after bleach has been applied.

You'll need a high strength volume 40-60 volume peroxide %26amp; powder bleach.

It is achievable but it's doubtful if a hairdresser would tackle the job as the condition of your hair afterwards will be very brittle %26amp; porous.

My advice is not to do this with a home kit, the solutions for home use are never as strong as salon use, I think you'd be very disappointed with the results.

As for the shades you'd be left with, this could end up a number of shades of orange.

How about some clip in blonde extensions? Or even some glue in ones Babyliss do a great kit with a great selection of colours that are glued into the hair %26amp; can easily be removed %26amp; re-used again.

A friend of mine has black hair. Some weeks ago she got (thin) blond highlights, it looks great! She had it done at her hairdresser.

You're gonna need bleach and you're gonna need to leave it on for a long time, maybe even 2 seperate applications giving the hair a break inbetween. A long time being 90 minutes, I think that may be the maximum you're supposed to leave bleach on your hair for.

This is assuming you're doing it yourself... If not, I'm sure the hairdresser will know what she/he's doing.

Hope it turns out well, I think blonde highlights look cool in black hair, very striking!

Hey there my opinion would be keep your own colour black hair looks really glossy and shiny im a hairdresser and havent saw anyone who has coloured blonde shiny hair before lol your best bet is to get some clip in blonde pieces which you can buy from SALLY hair and beauty supplies you get a variety of colours and can try them against your hair from the shade chart before you buy. The staff there are also really helpfull. This way you can have diff colours in your hair to suit your mood and you wont permanently damage your hair .

it wont just leave it on for as long as possible but when the dye starts to wear out it will go towards a gingery colour so u will have to keep dyin it

Blonde highlights will not look good with dark hair, and will stick out so badly as they will be so light and the rest of your hair. Try brown or red highlights. Go to your hairdresser and they will be able to help you.

I have black hair and had honey blonde highlights a few years ago and as it grew out it did look a bit ginger. However, it didnt look horrible.

The hairdresser will usually bleach your first in order to strip your hair of the black and then add the highlights, which includes yet more bleach.

Dont be put off if you want it done then you should go ahead and do it but make sure you go to a hairdresser that you are comfy with. Also, talk thru the whole thing with them and decide on a shade of blonde that you will feel comfy with.

It will be a huge shock, because it was for me. I knew one girl who also added blonde highlights to black hair and apparently she looked like a raccoon as it was white blonde. So, it maybe best to go for more brown/honey tones but that would depend on your skin tone.

But go to a good hairdresser, one you trust and have a chat.

Good luck.
