Can you highlight hair with henna?

Can you highlight hair with henna?

I wouldn't do it. It's a stain for your hair, and once you do it, you can't do anything else to it.

I don't think the colours that henna produces on hair are that bright really, so I wouldn't consider it a "highlight", more like a tint. Henna is best suited for colouring large sections of hair and only if you don't want a very drastic/dramatic colour change.

You can buy henna online from http://www.lush.co.uk/

"highlight" implies to lighten your hair, so no- henna cannot lighten hair, it will only tint it or "lowlight" it darker, if you wish to have lighter hair by more than 2 shades then you will need to use bleach.

Hi if you look on the Lush website they have a few hennas, they go by the name caca, its strange I know but there is Caca Brun = Brown

Caca Rouge = Red

Caca Marron = Chesnut

Caca Noir = Black.

If you cover the with cling film when its on your hair you will get a reddish result, leave it off to get a darker result.

If not recommended to bleach or highlight henna at all as apparantly bleach opens the cutical it shoves the henna deeper into the hair so its harder to remove the henna and you could end up with a funny colour result.

I did dye my hair with Lush Henna Caca Brun and I loved the result as it looked really natural and it was done on dyed hair also and I didnt get a funny result. The only thing it didnt last long and although you can apply henna as much as you like as it doesnt damage the hair, but its very messy and I couldnt be bothered reapplying another one to make it darker so I went over it with a normal hair dye and still got a good result and no reaction in colours which I was relieved.

SO henna is good if you want to try it for the first time but dont be prepare for a dramatic result, and you can dye over it with hair dye if you dont like it, but never bleach or highlight hennaed hair.

You could do color streaks with henna, but not highlights, because it won't lighten your hair.

Henna only comes in red. "Clear" or "gloss" henna is a different plant, and "black" henna is indigo. You can mix henna with other natural plants to vary the color of the dyes, but it'll be shades of red, or brown or black, if you add the indigo. "Colored" henna dyes that come in boxes are not real henna, and usually just a marketing ploy for a regular dye.

If you decide to use henna, buy the real plant, and use body art quality henna, because it is purer and has less stems, etc, and less chance for causing a reaction.

The best site to buy henna, and for information on henna for hair dye is hennaforhair.com - they also have a free e-book for download that tells all about henna.

Henna only dyes the hair reddish tones as it comes from a natural plant that only dyes one color. No one plant can make two colors, so usually those other "colors" are a mix of all sorts of things and other herbs. Be careful.

What color is your original hair color? You can do highlights but you cannot lighten your hair with henna. Like for example if you have brown hair and you want some reddish highlights you can do that, but it will never lighten your hair. If you want to lighten your hair I would recommend you use cassia obovata with some honey. Visit www.longhaircommunity.com for more information on that.
