I'm getting my hair highlighted at an upscale Aveda salon, but I normally just dye my hair all one color with professional Redken color. I have gray roots, and I'm thinking I can save myself a few bucks by doing the all over color myself and letting them do the highlights, but I'm afraid they won't touch my hair if they know I recently colored it. Advice from salon pros would be great!
Should I color my roots myself before I get professional highlights?
No...let the professionals do the whole thing...it will look better!

Have them dye your hair (or have a cheaper yet just as good salon do it). Have you ever been to a salon? Not a "bitchy" comment/question there...I've had my hair done a few times at a salon and they dyed my hair and then put in highlights/lowlights...

yes it would save you some bucks but if you do this you need to do it and wait a full week before hilights. but remeber that it is harder to lift color and it will be more damaging to your hair in the end

It doesn't matter if you do it yourself. Just let them know that you color it and w/what brand. They should have a good product that will cut through the color to get your desired color.
